Guardian Information

HYF serves youth who are facing one or more of the following challenges who would not otherwise have access to the services we provide:

  • Youth coming from under-resourced families or neighborhoods

  • Youth out-of-school, including youth out-of-school facing unemployment

  • Youth in or aging out of foster care

  • Youth experiencing homelessness

  • Youth who may need an alternative pathway educational environment (at-risk to leave secondary school without a diploma)

  • Youth who are involved in the justice system

  • Youth experiencing environmental factors that put their health, safety, and well-being at risk

  • Youth facing socio-emotional challenges exacerbated by being part of an under-resourced environment

HOW ARE KIDS SELECTED?

Youth athletes are nominated by a community member, self-selected or recommended by the local fitness facility

 

WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE CLASSES?

Classes are generally multiple times a week.  This will vary depending on facility or gym

 

WHO WILL BE TRAINING THE KIDS?

We have a network of dedicated Trainers excited to mentor and coach kids. CrossFit Level 1 certification or equivalent is mandatory and every trainer/mentor has completed a thorough background check.

 

WHAT KIND OF WORKOUTS DO YOU DO?

Our workouts are based on functional movements necessary for life and performance and done in an enjoyable way. These movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. Every movement can be scaled to the individual’s skill level. No experience is necessary.

 

WHAT IS HARBOURSIDE YOUTH FOUNDATION

HYF (Harbourside Youth Foundation) is a local network of programs through which at-risk or under-served youth can join in the non-traditional sport at a reduced, low or no cost structure. www.harboursideyouthfoundation.com
